Alexis Mac Allister is reportedly set to leave Liverpool in the summer of 2027 despite wanting to stay at Anfield, with the Reds planning a midfield rebuild and ready to invest significantly in new signings
Alexis Mac Allister is reportedly set to depart Liverpool despite the midfielder's desire to remain at Anfield. Although he is contracted until the summer of 2028, he has yet to be offered a new deal, having previously expressed his disappointment at not receiving one earlier this year.
The Argentine has been one of Liverpool's standout performers this season, netting four goals in 12 appearances across all competitions. Mac Allister has made no secret of his wish to continue his career on Merseyside, yet reports suggest his desires will go unfulfilled.
According to Sky Sports Switzerland, Liverpool is leaning towards offloading the Argentina international in the summer of 2027 as part of a midfield overhaul.
It is claimed the Reds are prepared to spend a "significant sum" to bring in at least one new midfielder at the end of the current campaign.
Consequently, Mac Allister is not anticipated to be offered a new contract and has been made aware of Liverpool's intentions, with a departure now considered a "concrete possibility".
Earlier this season, the 27 year old confessed that he was "sad" about not being handed an extension, also revealing that he turned down the chance to leave the club in the summer. Speaking ahead of Liverpool's opening Champions League fixture against Atletico Madrid, the midfielder said: "There was a chance [to leave], of course, like everybody knows.
"I received the news that the club was not in a position to offer me a new contract, which of course makes me very sad. I think everyone can see that I give my 100 per cent for this football club, every single day in training.
"Of course I have good games and bad games, but I always give my best. I see Dominik [Szoboszlai] and Ryan [Gravenberch] renewing their contracts, which makes me very happy because they deserve it.
"But at the same time, it makes me sad that I didn't get mine. Of course there is still time [to be offered a new contract]. Fans don't need to worry because I will give 100 per cent until my last day.
"We will see what happens. There was options to leave this summer. I think right now I'm in the right club."
Mac Allister was pressed again on his contractual situation following his double strike that helped Liverpool overcome Villarreal in the Champions League last week.
He said: "When I say what I said, it was more about my feelings," he said. "That's their decision and it's fine. I do my best and in the end, we'll see what happens."
