Liverpool midfielder Trey Nyoni has lifted the lid on the locker room feeling under Andoni Iraola and the impact that Ronald Araujo is having on loan from Barcelona
Trey Nyoni has already played more senior minutes for Liverpool this season than he did in the entirety of the last one, stepping up after the departure of Curtis Jones to Inter Milan.
And the 19-year-old former Leicester City ace has outlined the mood in the locker room after a spell of four wins on the spin in all competitions, with Liverpool beating LASK, Brentford, Villarreal and Brighton in the last couple of weeks.
Starting in two of those games and featuring in all of them, Nyoni has played an important role for Andoni Iraola, and he now looks well established as a first-team star.
"Obviously (the morale is) good," Nyoni said. "Everyone is positive right now. It was a tough game (against Brighton). We knew we needed to win.
"Obviously keeping a clean sheet as well was quite important because in the last few games we’ve conceded a couple of goals. I think everyone’s positive right now and there’s just a real belief in the group.
"My motive has always just been like, whether I’m on the pitch for a minute, five minutes, 10 minutes, 90 minutes, I just try to make the most out of the minutes I get.
"But I think in the last few weeks obviously I’ve had a lot of exposure, which has been good for me. It’s something different, playing a lot of minutes within a short space of time, and also adapting.
"But it has been really good, something that I’ve needed. It’s just good to be playing and obviously just taking in the experience as well, which is important."
At the back, Liverpool has benefitted from the stability that Iraola's side has felt. In no small part, Ronald Araujo has helped provide that since arriving from Barcelona.
"I think Ronald has kind of inspired everyone to fight," Nyoni, speaking to club media, added. "Coming from where he was, he was a captain, so that in itself already shows how much of a leader he is.
"And I think even though obviously at the minute he doesn’t speak much English, on the pitch you can see that he’s willing to fight and willing to give everything.
"When you see a player like that, I think it helps everyone else understand what it means to even just play here. So, I think it is important to have someone like him who’s got a lot of experience and can help everyone else."
Liverpool.com says: Nyoni has been very impressive so far. On the ball, he is excellent, and he is getting better off it as he learns the system and what is expected of him.
Alongside Rio Ngumoha, he looks set to establish himself as a genuine option for almost any game Liverpool plays this term. Having those additional squad members is vital for Iraola given the daunting schedule.
